Needlework has been an important fact in a woman's identity since the Victorian age, including embroidery, crocheting, and sewing. The term has become an all encompassing word to include any craft that uses needles and thread to create.
Over the years, I have been creating all forms of needlework and have found that I truly enjoy each aspect of the art. I have always considered myself creative, and I recently learned that when others showed me photos of items they liked, I could recreate them.
Glossary of Terms
Embroidery is an artistic method of decorating fabric or other materials with thread or yarn applied with a needle. Other materials, such as pearls, beads, quills, and sequins, may be used in embroidery. Currently, embroidery appears frequently on caps, hats, coats, overlays, blankets, dress shirts, jeans, dresses, stockings, scarves, and golf shirts. Embroidery thread or floss comes in a variety of colours. It is frequently used to customize gifts or clothing goods.
Crocheting is the art of creating textiles by interlocking loops of yarn, thread, or strands of other materials using a crochet hook. The name originates from the French word crochet, meaning "hook." Hooks are available in an assortment of materials, including metal, wood, bamboo, bone, and plastic.
Sewing is defined as a centuries-old craft that involves the use of needle and thread to stitch cloth, leather, animal skins, furs, or other materials. Its use dates back to the Paleolithic era (30,000 BC) and is remarkably common among human societies. Sewing actually precedes fabric weaving.
